International Translation Day: Celebrating at the National Pedagogical University
Every year on September 30, the world comes together to celebrate World Translation Day, paying tribute to Saint Jerome, the patron saint of translators. This year, the Association des Traducteurs et Interprètes Professionnels du Congo, a proud member of the International Federation of Translators (FIT), is continuing this cherished tradition with a special event.
Under the theme "Translating: An Art Worth Protecting," a unique gathering will take place on October 5, 2024, at the Université Pédagogique Nationale (UPN). This event will unite scholars and professionals from the translation field in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), offering a platform for vital discussions on the industry's pressing issues.
Eloge Mulumba, Manager of TradExpert Team—a translation and interpreting agency in Kinshasa and a former UPN student—highlights the significance of this gathering: "It's a chance to address crucial aspects of the industry and propose solutions tailored to the challenges we face."
The event will also welcome students from the School of Translation and Interpreting, alongside other professionals interested in the field. Attendees can look forward to four insightful presentations covering a range of sub-themes, which will be revealed soon.
This celebration promises to showcase the vital role of translation in today’s society while strengthening connections among industry stakeholders. Don’t miss this essential opportunity to honor the art of translation and contribute to its preservation!
